Indian wedding is full of fun. There are many customary beliefs that are practiced pre and post wedding. Generally an Indian wedding can take from 5 to 20 days depending on the geographical location, culture and religion. At least a month before the wedding day both the families and the bride and bridegroom get excited and start planning for the wedding. Both the families make sure that each and every custom is practiced and held with happiness.

Henna Tattoo: Color of Mehendi is an important sign of love and that is common throughout India. Girls love getting a beautiful henna tattoo on their hands and feet. It is said that the darker the tattoo is the loving will be the bride’s husband.

Seven Circumambulations: “Sat Phere” It is the most important ritual of a marriage and certainly the only reason for arranging such grand affair. It is believed that these seven circumambulations around the holy fire are identical to seven gods’ union with them. Along with this each circumambulation has its own vow and significance and by the last one they see each other as husband and wife for the next 7 generations.

Jewelry: It is said that on the day of her wedding bride should wear matching jewelry. Her body should be decorated with jewelry, if not matching at least colorful jewelry. Colorful jewelry is said to fill the married life of bride and bridegroom with joy and happy moments.

Grains Throw: After the seven circumambulations the bride is supposed to leave her home and go with her husband to his home (which then after will be her home too). While leaving she throws grains (laba, rice, corn). It is said that the daughter of the house is the goddess of wealth (Lakshmi) and when she leaves with her goes the fortune. Grains are the sign of fortune and so she throws it back stating that she is leaving a part of her soul with the grains, so that her family lives happily thereafter.

Milk: Post wedding when the bride is supposed to make something in her new home. The first thing she is supposed to cook is Milk, the bride is supposed to boil the milk and make a dish of milk. It is also seen that the milk is not spilt or gets fermented. As both are bad signs of misfortune in their life.
