Gulaab Gang – Review

Story

Anil Kapoor begins Gulaab Gang with an introduction for Rajjo(Madhuri Dixit). Anil narrates her story the way she had to struggle to study in the Madhavpur village, where even thought of making girls study is considered a big crime. But she fights her way and takes a different path which she creates herself. As she gets matured, she starts a sangathan – Gulaab Gang. She leads the group of lathbaaz women which wears a pink saree and fights against social injustice. They tackle issues like rape, domestic violence and dowry along with daily needs like food, water and electricity. The Gang then shifts their focus to election war, when Rajjo decides to stand against the mean politician Soumitra (Juhi Chawla). This step ignites fury and fight between the two ladies, both with different principles and moral values.

Review

Madhuri Dixit surely impresses as the leader of this girl gang. She does bowls you out with her high octane action scenes. Though, Madhuri has more onscreen presence compared to Juhi Chawla, but it is Juhi who shines brighter.

Juhi surprises with her mean and evil politician role. She takes revenge for not calling her ‘madamji’, she doesn’t even leave policemen those who don’t bow in front of her. She sheds crocodile tears during a political speech and says the insurance company has not paid the due money after her husband’s death. The time has come to get over from Juhi’s bubbly and angelic roles, she is the new villain of Bollywood.

Divya Jagdale (as Mahi) and Priyanka Bose (as Sandhya), who form the supporting cast of the film deserve a special mention here. Gulaab Gang wouldn’t have been as feisty without them.

Director Soumik Sen’s casting coup has not gone wasted. Although, we must say that the only thing that is not happening in the movie is that it has too many songs which side track the main story.

Overall, you should watch Gulaab Gang for Juhi Chawla!!
