Health Concerns This Monsoon Season

As the summer season, now slowly seems to be passing by, it is time to welcome the season of monsoon! The first rains may be widely welcomed all over the country, especially due to the excessive heat we experienced this year. But, along with the refreshing rains, the monsoon season also brings along with it an array of diseases, including a few fatal ones.

Here are a few tips on how you can keep your family safe and healthy from these diseases without missing out on the fun.

Fighting Mosquitoes

Monsoon and Mosquitoes! With the very first rain and the stagnant rain water that accumulates around your house, mosquitoes are the first thing that one needs to safeguard the family against.

Malaria, dengue and several other diseases are caused by mosquitoes which can become fatal if not treated at the right time. Moreover, the malarial parasites these days have become resistant to drugs as a result of which higher dosage of medications are now administered to patients to cure them from these diseases.

The best way to keep your family safe is by keeping away from mosquitoes. You can protect your home from mosquitoes by keeping mosquito coils around. You can keep the windows closed and sleep with your bed protected by mosquito net.

Use mosquito repellent creams and patches on your body to keep your children away from mosquitoes.

Boiled water

Monsoon means choked or overflowing sewage and drain pipes. As a result, there is a huge chance of having contaminated drinking water in your taps. Hence, the best way of keeping away water-borne diseases like cholera, jaundice, etc. is by drinking only boiled water.

Drink only bottled water in restaurants. Make sure you check the seal before opening the bottles. Also, at home, make sure you drink either RO water or boiled water.

Dressing-up rightly

Wear clothes that cover your body properly and don’t expose you to mosquitoes and dirty water. Make your kids wear raincoats and gumboots to keep them away form rain water. This will help them stay clean and dry.

Preferably, use an umbrella along with a raincoat to avoid getting wet in the rain.

Precautions for Kids

Monsoon for kids means a lot of water and a lot of fun. They don’t care if they get wet or catch a disease while playing with water in the gardens or streets. But, it is the duty of every parent to ensure safety and good health of their children.

Let the kids play in the gardens. If wet, make sure you change their clothes instantly. Keep them warm and avoid air-conditioners until they are completely dry. Make sure you give them vegetable soup everyday to keep their immunity strong. This will also help them fight flu easily.

Other Tips

  • Wash your hands before you eat and after you use the toilet.
