How To Break In New Shoes

New shoes can be a pain in the beginning. Like everything else, footwear has to become a little old to suit your comfort. Whether they are designed exclusively for individuals or mass produced, breaking them is essential. This can only be done by wearing them as often as you can to wear off the freshness.

  • The first and foremost way of feeling less pain is to have extra pairs of shoes. A person having more than a pair of shoes, can wear the new shoes for a few minutes each day till the shoe shape particularly the ‘uppers’, get adjusted to the shape of your feet.
  • The delicate skin at the back of the heels or the little toes, are the main areas prone to peeling off. To avoid the pain and tearing of the skin, try covering the areas with a thin layer of cotton balls.
  • Rubbing candle wax in the heel portion and near the little toes section is another way to keep the shoes from hurting you.
  • Though using water spray is mentioned; unless you know how to do so without spoiling the texture don’t attempt the technique.
  • Shoes tend loosen with time. Place an additional in sole to make them reusable.
  • Buy a pair of shoes that matches the curve of the feet. If a person is flat footed, then adding a piece of packing in the centre is essential. It would be ideal to get the padding fixed by special shoe makers.
  • Many times the soles wear of easily. To add extra life to the shoes; get an additional piece of soles fixed before using the shoes.
  • Avoid wearing pencil heels for long hours. Doing so will save the calf muscles from aching.

The main points to note would be:

  • Buy your shoes well in advance. You will have enough time for breaking them.
  • Wear the new pair for a few minutes and increase the timing slowly.
  • Wear them at home till you feel comfortable.
  • Carry your new shoes to your workplace and wear them while you are seated.
  • Polishing the footwear every time before use makes the shoes last longer.
  • Use shoe lasts to maintain the shape of the uppers, particularly when the shoes are not being used for a few days.
  • Use adhesive tape on the back of the heels or around the little toes to avoid ‘blisters’

Following these suggestions may help you wear new shoes with comfort.
