After the pageant, I became exposed to many opportunities within the Indian-American community. I was launched into the modeling and fashion circuit. I was recruited to become a television host for a South Asian network. And most meaningfully, I became involved in many non-profits tackling issues of education and poverty in India.

I was simply honored to be chosen by the Bare Escentuals team. They are such an inspirational brand and I love their products. I was also very proud to gain some exposure for South Asian girls in mainstream media. When I was a young girl, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me that I could look up to. But today, things are very different, and this campaign was a step in the right direction.

Modeling is quite fun for me. but I would say acting is what really fuels and fulfills me the most.

I have many role models – my teachers, my friends, my family. I find inspiration in the people I choose to spend my time with; or maybe the reverse is more telling: I choose to spend my time with those who inspire me.

Achieving a 2nd degree black belt took years of training, discipline, focus, and sacrifice. I believe that way of living helped me achieve all that I have today.

I’d highly encourage all women to do some sort of self defense class or workshop if they haven’t already. The sooner the better. Of course, the hope is that you’ll never need to use it, but it’s better to be prepared than not.

During my summer break in college, I volunteered in a village in Jharkhand, India, with a few classmates. The community there was extremely poor and had very saddening health issues, which were being neglected by the government. We decided to put our brainpower and resources together and formed Hospital for Hope to build a sustainable hospital to serve this area, of over 100,000 villagers.

Some guiding words I live by: “Surround yourself with people who lift you higher. Find people that encourage you to be your best, and if you can’t find that, you must find motivation in yourself.”
