1) Never Let Work Affect Your Family

Be just a mother at home and not a CEO ordering kids. Be with them when they need you. No matter how stressful is your office profile, never let it hover on your personal life. Family comes primary and hence do not skip your children’s school/college events, sports events and likewise any important family affair.

“Remember the time you were studying in the US and the announcement of my becoming MD and CEO of ICICI was splashed across all newspapers? I remember the mail you wrote to me a couple of days later. ‘You never made us realize that you had such a demanding, successful and stressful career. At home, you were just our mother,’ you wrote in your email. Live your life in the same way, my darling.”

2) Never Gender Discriminate

It is very important to set an example of equality in your kid’s life right from the childhood and that’s what Mrs. Kochhar said how her parents had taught them one thing about life. A confidence in each of your sibling or a child, to do something of their own would help them begin their journey of a successful self-discovery.

“Our parents treated all three of us – two sisters and a brother – equally. When it came to education, or our future plans, there was no discrimination between us based on our gender. Your grandparents always had the same message for the three of us – that it was important to focus on what gave us satisfaction and to work towards it with utmost dedication.”

3) Life Is A Lesson, Learn From It

It’s not just for you, me or for her, life has something impending that shocks you, and it is with all of us! Mrs. Chanda Kochhar and her mother were also in the same roller coaster but they fought back. Her mother never gave up, managed studies of all three of her children and stood tall single handedly. Never give up! Adapt to circumstance and never let stress win over you.

“I also learnt from my mother that it is very important to have the ability to handle difficult situations and keep moving forward in life, no matter what. Even today I can remember the equanimity and calmness with which she handled the crisis on hand when my father passed away.”

4) Believe In Fate And Hard Work Equally

Trust your destiny by writing a storyline for the same yourself! Believe in your fate but do not sit down and be awaited for the success without any actions, WORKHARD!. You won’t achieve your targets if you just wait for fate to make it happen. Dream what you want to be, live in those dreams and it will certainly happen one day.

“I believe in fate but I also believe that hard work and diligence plays a very important role in our lives. In a larger sense, we all write our own destiny. Take destiny in your own hands, dream of what you want to achieve, and write it in your own way.”

5) Achieve Your Goal But With Honesty

Success isn’t easy, it comes in bits and pieces and engulfs lots of your patience and time, but it is wise to use the right path to success and not take the temporary success which may leave you in sheer guilt for life. Always be true to yourself and your work. Also, remember you can never be successful, if you achieve your targets by hurting the people around you or choosing the short cuts.

“Aarti, there is no limit to what a determined mind can achieve, but in achieving your goal, don’t compromise on the values of fair play and honesty. Don’t cut corners or compromise to achieve your dreams. Remember to be sensitive to the feelings of people around you.
