How to uncover your true passion in life & roll with it?

Do you find that deep down, there is something unsettling about how you are currently leading your life? Whether it is feeling misaligned with the job you currently hold, or feeling lackadaisical about life in general, the key ingredient to the recipe of life that you may be missing is your true passion. You, as a human being, have every right and potential to do or be anything you want to be. Unaware of what your true calling is? Well, fret not, for most of us tend to discover this in the later parts of our lives rather than earlier. True passions and callings don’t necessarily shine like guiding beacons ahead of you, but here are some ways in which you can uncover your true passion in life and roll with it.

  1. Think About What You Used To Love

As we grow and mature, many of us tend to leave our childhood dreams and ambitions in a corner to collect dust. Sure, some of our old aspirations may be a little over the top – chances are you’re not going to become the Disney princess you always wanted to be. However, this doesn’t mean that you should lead a jaded life, rid of all the passions you once had. What were you curious about in the past? Did you always want to be a hairstylist, or perhaps a fashion designer? Dig deep and try to remember the dreams of your youth – and then roll with it! Enrol yourself in fashion stylist courses, art classes or even acting classes. It is never too late to realise the dreams of your younger days.

  1.    Pay Attention To What Keeps Returning To Your Life

It is our belief that what is meant for you or what is truly important in your life are the things that keep on recurring in your life without you even trying. Are you always the one who is making up amazing stories to entertain your friends children, or just entertain people in general? Every time you feel stressed out, do you find yourself running to the kitchen to de-stress by baking a cake or a pie? Do you look at animals and constantly wish you could adopt all of them? These recurrent things that occur on your life give you clues as to what will really satisfy you – so pay close attention to them.

  1.    It’s Not All About The Money

When you are truly passionate about something, any money that can be earned from your passion is secondary in the hierarchy of importance in your life. Money should never be the primary consideration when trying to find your true calling in life. If you’re looking forward to spending the rest of your life doing something you truly love, the best way to embark on this journey is to treat your financial concerns as secondary. If practicality and how much you earn is your primary criteria, you are instantly limiting your options to what is common and predictable. On the flipside, allowing yourself to pursue your curiosity will help you place yourself in a position of power and, eventually, in the position to earn an income through your passion on your own terms.

  1.    Notice What Feels Good

Often, when we are engaged in doing something we are truly passionate about, we end up feeling a great sense of fulfillment and joy. Do you feel this when you are helping out at an animal shelter, or perhaps when you fully immerse yourself in arts and crafts? Pay attention to the times you feel this way as they can be crucial insight into what you truly love doing and what you should be doing with your life.

  1.   It’s All About Patience

When it comes to passion and true calling, don’t expect it to happen overnight. This isn’t a fast food meal, nor is it an express courier service. Many people take years and years to find out what their true passions are (thus, the high number of people who embark on career changes well into their 40’s or 50’s). Be patient with yourself, knowing that where you are right now is the best place, and that things can only get better from now on.
