Before you start decorating the diyas, submerge them in water for a few hours and then let them dry for a day. This will help the color stick and the design stay as it is on the diya. Otherwise, when you light candles or oil lamps in these diyas, they will absorb the oil, and also affect its beauty.

Diya with Crystal designs

• Colored crystals or stones

Method:

• Use a thick paint brush and color the diya with a basic color, like black or simple red color. Let the color dry completely (approx 2-3 hours).
• Now think of any simple pattern that you want to make on these diyas, and start sticking the crystals or diamante stones on the diya with fevicol on the desired design.

Method:

• Color the diyas in bright colors like green, red, yellow, blue or orange colors. Let the color dry properly for 2-3 hours.
