FUE Hair Transplants: Where Can You Get One and How Much Will It Cost?

There are many avenues available to those considering a hair transplant. If you would like to go the non-surgical route, there is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment. Unfortunately, although PRP is convenient, it is not always effective. For the highest chance of success, most surgeons recommend an FUE hair transplant.

Hair Transplants Before FUE

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a relatively new advancement in the hair transplant industry. Prior to its introduction, most hair transplant clinics offered FUT exclusively.

FUT stands for “follicular unit transplantation”. It is often semi-jokingly referred to as “strip harvesting”. The procedure begins with the removal of actual hair-bearing skin from the patient’s scalp. This skin is then divided into smaller grafts for insertion into the receiver site. FUT sounds pretty grisly and, to be honest, it is. It is considered a major operation and often requires a month’s recovery time.

Follicular Unit Extraction

In FUE hair transplant, hairs are taken from the donor site one by one. A scalpel is then used to create a series of small incisions in the receiver site. The hairs are implanted in the receiver site individually. Implanting hairs one at a time allows the surgeon to determine the direction of each. This creates a more natural look.

FUE is much less invasive than a follicular unit transplant. It is a minor procedure and in some cases sedation isn’t even required. Most patients recover within the space of 48 hours, although results may take some time to show.

Sapphire FUE

Sapphire FUE follows much the same process as its more traditional alternative. However, it uses sapphire blades to make all necessary incisions. Sapphire blades are advantageous as they are quite fine and create much smaller cuts. These cuts heal quickly, allowing the patient to return to normal life in almost no time at all.

Sapphire FUE hair transplants are still being perfected in certain countries. If you are considering one, we strongly suggest traveling to a country where they have been available for some time.

Many hair restoration clinics in Turkey have perfected sapphire FUE. The Vera Clinic in Istanbul has established itself as one of the world’s top surgeries for both classic and sapphire FUE. Testimonials from the clinic’s past patient’s can be found at www.veraclinic.net/en.

How Much Does An FUE Hair Transplant Cost?

In many countries, FUE costs begin at about $4000. We have even heard reports of some people paying upwards of $15,000 for the procedure. Thankfully, this is not the norm.

If keeping costs down is your primary concern, you should consider having your FUE hair transplant performed in Turkey. Hair Restoration is so common in the country that clinics are forced to offer low rates to trump their competitors. With proper planning, you may be able to secure FUE treatment, flights, and accommodation for less than $6000.
