It Is Not Rape If A Husband Forces Himself On His Wife Who Is Above 15 Years Of Age!

Women are raped in India every average minute. It doesn’t take a full stop here, but this stretches to multiple psychological and social issues. She is isolated by the society, disturbed mentally and physically, questions hover from every corner after she is brutally raped. For many in India, rape is considered to be more of a victim’s fault and less of the culprit’s. Only few believes and encourages a normal life for her. Alongside fighting corruption, poverty and terrorism, India also fights one of the biggest crime against women, Rape!

Definition:

“A man is said to commit “rape” who has sexual intercourse with a woman against her will/consent, forcibility by threatening her or any of family member to death, or by using intoxications is considered a criminal act.

Explanation:

Penetration is sufficient to constitute the sexual intercourse necessary to the offence of rape.

Exception:

Sexual intercourse by a man with his own wife, the wife not being under fifteen years of age, is not rape.” (OMG Really? I forgot India is a patriarchal society)

More than half of the population must have not read Indian Rape law due to poverty, illiteracy and availability issues. However, the important scenario is the awareness about forcing a woman to let them penetrate their manlyhood is no good and is against humanity and definitely would be a punishable act. Less than 10% rape victims are men, majorly it is targeted on women. Rape tarnishes innocent lives by making the life traumatised, possibly a way to death.

The Dance Of Numbers!

The statistics that appeared from several researches showcase humanity being killed. Don’t rapists put themselves in the humanity shoes and think of their own family before they commit such heinous act on someone who would be a loved one to a family? India is developing in various aspects, with increase in number of literacy and modernization which was suppose to bring civilization, I wonder what makes the hike in rape cases?

  • The annual rape rate in India has increased from 1.9 to 2.0 per 100,000 people over 2008-2012 period.
  • According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 24,206 rape cases were registered in India in 2011.
  • In 2012, the conviction rate for rape was 24.2%.
  • Now that, forcing sex inside a marriage is not a rape in India, the rape numbers would be higher though not considered a crime.
  • With the latest statistics of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), every day 93 women are being raped in the country – That’s  from 24,923 in 2012 to 33,707 in 2013.

Casualties And Effects Of Rape:

Rape just not disturbs the victim’s soul but also possibly force them to commit suicide if they are alive and not killed by the rapists. It is not just woman’s problem but a human problem. Depression and post-traumatic stress disorder are common conditions and an untreated depression leads to suicidal attempt.

About 33% of rape victims have suicidal thought. About 13% of rape victims will attempt suicide. They may occur years after the rape after having no control on emotions and having failed to live the life again. Sleeplessness, disturbed concentration, avoiding meeting people socially or places and many psychological disorders are the effects faced by the rape victim. Pregnancy is the other cause which leaves the victim in greatest dilemma ever. Men are the least affected under the rape category. Culprits, if caught by police, the cases in India may take decades to solve or can never be solved.

Eating Chowmein Causes Rape. Really?

Not to get surprised by the language used by the politicians of India, as we are habituated,  but definitely surprised by the words that come out when they part their lips. With putting no logic in the statements, it is said, women wearing skirts, eating chow mein, bikini and drinks causes Rape. Not to miss one of the Congress minister said, “ Ninety per cent of rapes are “consensual”. Guess he is from the ‘not read the law’ category.

Are The Culprits Disciplined?

There’s no wrong if Indian Courts can be compared with the snails. Supported with the strict laws, if Indian courts pass the quick punishments, Indians can welcome a change otherwise with increasing awareness amongst women, there are higher number of reports just piling up in the offices. Rapists in India, can get imprisonment upto 10 years, a life term or a fine to pay. If, I am saying if the rapist is convicted, which rarely happens in India, will he not rape again after completing the term?

Strict rules like handing them over to the public or family members of the victim not specific about the consequences that comes should be introduced. Life time imprisonment to Hang till death would bring a wave of fear in men who think women inferior and their desires superior.

Moral Guidance?

If we talk about a moral change, it would take decades to show us the brighter side. Equality in the society, respect to women, education, not suppressing women victim, teaching the right thing to kids, no gender discrimination may give us hope. However, in order to curb the growing rape digits, law is the supreme thing that needs to be amended and if not that it needs to be implemented.

P.S – Politicians who use sluggish languages with no logic for a public statement, should be suspended!
