ABCD 2

Varun Dawan – Shradhdha Kapoor starrer ABCD2 is largely based on the life of “The Fictitious Group” who rose up to fame through their share of struggles and that Indians can do hip-hop at par with the world. Anyhow, it lacks the spark a supposed dance movie should have. The movie seems to be a little more of drama than dance. The length of the movie probably is the reason for that. The writer seems to be grappling for the story frequently which leads to lack of continuity or impact. The desh-bhakti is a little too much and gets to you at a certain point.

The movie is good in parts with the little humor that Raghav gets in. A little over the top though, with drinking shampoo and speaking bubbles (just to use 3D may be). The dance sequences (sadly, the mention is way below in the review for the movie type) are not too impressive. The sets and lighting grab your attention but I wish the dances would have been just as good. The semi-final sequences were noteworthy and certainly more impactful than the finals.

Varun Dhawan looks good and adds the intended glamour to the movie not compromising with the finesse in the performance. His performances show the required strength. Shradhdha Kapoor is not as impressive and doesn’t seem to have the strength that should come in with hip-hop. Prabhu Deva sets the stage on fire as always and the acting brought in a good flavor too around his cover. The dancing stars like Raghav, Dharmesh, Lauren, Punit and all those which I may not be able to fit in here are as always great and deserve to be featured on more platforms like these.

Its smartly placed this time with a hip-hop competition but one tiny little issue I have always had with the ABCD series is that being the first “Indian” dance movie and speaking about the Indian-ness with this edition, they don’t really feature Indian dance forms as much.
