brothers

Brothers

After his last film Agneepath, a lot was expected from Director Karan Malhotra who made the public fall in love with the new version. ‘Brothers’ is also a remake, a hindi remake of an Hollywood film named, ‘Warrior’. However, the storyline has been changed a little bit, keeping in mind the needs of the Indian audience and I think that’s where the mistake was made.

The first half of the movie is all emotional and dramatic….more like a story telling sorts about the lives of the characters which is average, nothing that you cannot predict. The story telling is too sluggish and the audience was already getting bored with it. However, once the action starts, you will start missing the soft beginning of the movie. You will see some real hard punches being delivered, kicks and fights that will increase the adrenaline flow in your body (only if you love action films).

As predictable as it can get, Akshay and Siddharth are Brothers from different mothers, but same Father! David (Akshay) leaves the street-fighting life and becomes a teacher and has a small family, with a sick daughter who needs to be treated soon. While Monty (Sidharth) needs to win the MMA competition (fighting arena) for the cash which he intends to use for his father (Jackie) who is now an alcoholic.

The film could have been better if the script was strong and minus the overacting. Talking of performances, Jackie as father is impeccable; Akshay as David does full justice to the character and the fights; Jacqueline as David’s wife has very little screen space but does a decent job as well; Sidharth looks huge but is overshadowed by Akshay.

To watch or not to watch?? I was in a dilemma right from the start, whether to go for this movie or not. The fact that the movie is all about bloody punches, kicks and bone breaking, was known and that was something that really appalled me. Well, if you really have a thing for fights and actions films, you will love it, else just dump the idea of wasting your time for the film. But yes, if you go, make it a point of taking your ear plugs with you as the movie is really loud.
