Drishyam

Drishyam

The Story begins in a small town of Goa, where Vijay Salangaonkar (Agay Devgan) lives with his family. Vijay is a kind-hearted Samaritan leading a normal life of a middle class man who works hard to make ends meet and loves his Wife and Two daughters more than anything else. Their slow and happy life takes a sudden strike one fateful night where series of unexpected events lead to a wretched accident. This accident puts his family in jeopardy and the story revolves around how Vijay is willing to go to any lengths to protect his family.

This is a remake of a malayalam super hit and it has also been made in three other South-Indian languages. So, everyone from that part of India might not be thrilled or enjoy this straight forward yet an illusioned screenplay. This is a novel suspense movie where the suspense is already revealed but the thrill never lets you sit comfortably in your chair till the last scene. There is no unnecessary glamour, drama or any commercial tactics used to make this into a popular movie. The hero of the movie is it’s elegant casting and smart screenplay.

It seems like Ajay Devgan loves playing a goan and does a damn good job playing a common man who can go to any lengths to protect his family. Tabu is suave & stern in her role as an IG of Goa police department. Ishita Dutta executes her role with efficiency and ease. All the other casts performances are commendable. The simplicity & realistic display of the locations, people and the backdrop helps one to focus on the story and proves one does not need to go extravagant to make something look nice.

The story will make you question between the right and wrong or the morality of the key players. However, the initial stretch to introduce the characters could have been crisp to make the film a great one. But, the slow beginning and lengthy introductions keeps it to a good movie as well. Since it is a remake and is stodgy in parts we could only offer 3.5 stars out of 5 which otherwise could have easily been a 4 or even 4.5 stars. Nonetheless, such movies prove that Bollywood is truly evolving and is capable to dish out great content based hits.
