Happy Ending Review

Story

A Los Angeles based desi writer Yudi (Saif ali Khan) is living off his inheritance and his self-proclaimed fame of his only book. He is a stereo-typed modern age man ‘who wants commitment free relationships’. The story revolves around his professional struggle (so what if he still drives a BMW) and his commitment issues. Govinda is his savior who himself is trying to revive his popularity as a fading Bollywood actor. The rest is a khichdi.

Review

The first half is lighthearted funny (Thanks to Govinda & Ranveer shorey). However, the movie starts losing its audience in the second half, much like the audience of Achal’s (Ileana D’Cruz) book reading sessions. The story lacks depth and does not do justice to its own title. The positive is that there is thankfully not too much drama associated with the main plot of the film (relationships). The breakups are peaceful and mutual.

The cinematographer has done a fine job with presenting some breathtaking views of American coastal highways and cities (San Francisco in specific). It is difficult to believe that the director Duo Krishan DK and Raj Nidimoru, after dishing out off beat beauties like ‘Flavours’, ‘99’, ‘Go Goa Gone!’ have come with something not so convincing.

Govinda’s flamboyant performance and Ranveer Shorey’s brilliance, though overshadowed by the Stars are the only saving grace for the movie. Rest of the cast tries there best to fit in their respective roles but have failed by the lackluster script and the insipid narration, which they try to save via Yogi (Saif’s imaginary self/alter ego). Preity, plays her ex-girlfriend turned best friend with conviction. Kareena adds a fare bit of glamour in the beginning, Kalki, has once again shown her metal as an actor & Ileana has evolved from her previous films.

All in a ‘Happy ending’ has a good beginning, an average middle and sadly a docile & predictable ending. The movie will not influence you in any way neither positive or a negative.
