Roy Movie Review

Its an upcoming trend that I see in Bollywood – promising concepts and executions that do not live up to the standards. With a really impressive poster and some extremely promising music for starters, the movie failed to impress me as a follow-up. Super slow-paced throughout, I feel the movie had some great potential to have an interesting terrain in there. Anyhow, it was sadly only a “plain”.

The blend between the stories of Arjun Rampal and Ranbir Kapoor is well conceived and commendably executed. Arjun Rampal plays his part well and fits the role beautifully. Ranbir Kapoor is a good actor undoubtedly with sadly not much to do with his role in the movies though. Jacqueline as Ayesha looks stunning. Himman Dhamija’s cinematography, Sanjoy Chowdhury’s background score and beautiful locations are other highlights of the movie. The accessories in the movie caught my eye and are really worth a special mention or rather a section of its own. Its, anyhow, just not enough to carry the movie on its shoulders. The pace of the movie is just not justifiable. The songs seem unwanted mostly. There is no contrast between the two overlapping lives which gives an extremely mono-tonal value to the movie. There is hardly any “thrill” in the thriller and essentially lacks the much required punch. What I thought would be a classy, elegant and a crisp thriller turned out to be just another boring romantic film by the end of it (with a lot of cliches in there).

All-in-all, I think Roy was more like a perfect lullaby to me and lacked lustre. Its a must-watch for all those who have forgotten what a “peaceful” life means, because the movie is a bit too peaceful.
