Ungli

Ungli

Story

Ungli, as the trailer clearly suggests, is about a few people coming together to put up a “non-satyagrahi” show against corruption. Influenced by a hard-hitting incident from their real life, four friends – Maya (KanaganaRanaut), Abhay (RandeepHooda), Kalim (AngadBedi) and Goti (Neil Bhoopalam) start the Ungli gang. Nikhil (EmraanHashmi), with his not very conventional thinking, is roped in to bust this gang by ACP Kale (Sanjay Dutt).

Review

“Don’t underestimate the power of a common man” is what Ungli is about. Ungli – in the likes of “A Wednesday” and “Rang De Basanti” – speaks of what an aamaadmi can do to change the system he only cribs about. However, just as the film title, it’s a quirkier version of it.

Although the story line doesn’t have too much of a surprise element to it, it is put together to keep you interested. The story unfolds in an interesting manner (credit to the director there) to span across elements from everyone’s lives without seeming to be a clutter even with such a huge star cast.

The movie is well-paced right from the beginning to the end. The film makers meant business and they don’t take too long to build that up. As mentioned, they don’t have a lot of new things to say, but an interesting way to say it. The music is nice and easy and thankfully not too intrusive. The songs don’t really help the story line but don’t kill the pace either.

With a few glitches like “a familiar story” or possibly even a little unrealistic, the movie is definitely worth a watch for someone who is not overly picky about the movies they watch. The movie delivers fun and vigor in decent proportions which makes me give it a good 3.5 stars.
