Mexican Tortillas

Ingredients
  • 3 cups
  • 2 tsp
  • 2 tsp
  • 3/4 cup
  • 3/4 cup
Method of Preparation
  • Mix the flour, salt and baking soda. Use your hand or pastry cutter to cut the shortening, until the mixture is almost crumbly. In case the mixture looks more floury, then add 2 more tbsp shortening to it. Add 3/4 cup hot water to this mixture just to make it look moist.
  • Knead the mixture with your hands or a large fork. Rub the dough against the sides of the mixing bowl to include any remaining clinging dough. In case the dough still sticks to the sides, add more flour until it forms a round soft shape. Cover it with a dish towel for an hour.
  • Now, take the dough and make 10 to 12 small balls. Sprinkle a little flour to the rolling area and roll each ball to about 1/8 inch thickness. Place each tortilla on an iron skillet on medium heat. Cook both sides for 1 to 2 mins. Mexican Tortillas are ready to eat now.
