Jazbaa

Is it Diwali already or was it just the fierry fireworks in the film that made me think for a minute that it is the beginning of the festive season!

Jazbaa has been one of the most awaited movies of the year 2015, more because it marked the comeback of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after her 5 year old break. And without doubt, Aish carries forth the movie perfectly as expected. But, after you have watched the film, you will remember it not as an Aishwarya film, but as an Irrfan Khan film. The actor, already known for his flawless acting skills, deservingly steals away the limelight from Aish.

Inspired from a Korean film, Seven Days, Jazbaa shows Aishwarya as Anuradha Varma a divorced mother, who is also one of the country’s most successful criminal lawyers, with a 100% track record. Her rules are simple – She fights for criminals who can afford her. But soon, her morals are shattered when she is forced to fight the case of a criminal (Chandan), not for some ransom money but to free her kidnapped pre-teen daughter Sanaaya.

Enters the Yohan (Irrfan) as the dashing, smart but tainted cop who is also Anuradha’s best friend and a secret admirer. He delivers or rather slaps his dialogues with ease, leaving you completely smitten by his grace and smoothness. Shabana Azmi, does complete justice to her little role as the mother of the raped and murdered girl.

The only thing holding back the film’s perfect success is Sanjay Gupta’s intrusive melodrama which makes you a little dizzy, particularly in 2 scenes. Else, the movie surely deserves a watch!
