SHEENA CHOHAN: ACTOR & HUMAN RIGHTS AMBASSADOR- cares for a change!

Sheena Chohan was crowned Miss Kolkata while still in high school before being handpicked by Sushmita Sen to participate in Miss Universe where she won the only title to be voted for by millions of viewers – “I Am Voice” for her connectivity with the audience.

An actress since childhood, Sheena acted professionally in almost 30 theatre plays with eminent directors including Arvind Gaur until she won the lead female role in South Indian film The Train directed by National Award winning director Jayaraj opposite the south superstar Mammootty.

Next Sheena shot 2 films with National Film Award Winner Buddhadeb Dasgupta named “Mukti” and 

“Patralekha” based on Rabindranath Tagore’s Poems.

In 2009 Sheena became South Asian Ambassador for Youth for Human Rights, the largest human rights education program in the world. Sheena has tirelessly given hundreds of talks and seminars at some of the most prestigious schools and universities and some of the most underprivileged slum areas in India – all with the message of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, focussing particularly on the rights of women and children. 

Her international film – Ant Story, had a world Premiere at the Dubai Film Festival and was selected for the Shanghai Film Festival, where Sheena was nominated as Best Actress, in competition with such superstar names as Kiera Knightley and Kate Beckinsale.

Sheena has just returned from Hollywood where she shot for the award-winning American director Taron Lexton’sforthcoming film Nomad – a sci fi epic that is being filmed in 24 countries and 7 continents. While she was in America she was invited to the United Nations by Youth for Human Rights, where she used the opportunity to speak there to call for mandatory human rights education in all schools in India. Because of her exceptional work for human rights resulting in 32 major universities accepting human rights education into their curriculums, Sheena was presented the Human Rights Hero Award at the United Nations. She is the only Indian to have received the Human Rights Hero Award at the United Nations!

Since being back in India she’s given a TEDx Talk about the Power of Art and was presented with a Leadership Excellence Award at the Global Summit for Unity, Peace and Prosperity by the Brahma Kumari Global Organisation.

The versatile and talented actress was recently seen in the Fame Game, where she acted alongside superstar Madhuri Dixit and the Webseries, City of Dreams, directed by Nagesh Kughnoor.  Next she will be seen as the star of the comedy drama- Lockdown mei Breakdown, releasing soon.
