Earth Hour 2014 – Turn Off Lights And Save Planet

People all across the world are now ready to switch off the lights in the celebration on Earth Hour 2014, today. It is a global movement first started by World Wide Fund (WWF). It is celebrated to bring the awareness regarding certain environment issues. It was first celebrated in the year 2007 in Australia.

This year according to the Earth Hour website, more than 7,000 towns and cities in the entire world are committed to join the celebration and turn off their lights Saturday night at 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time. Huge and iconic monuments and buildings like – The Empire State Building, The Opera House of Sydney, Pyramids of Egypt, Eiffel Tower and many more will be plunged in darkness.

Keya Chatterjee, the senior director renewable energy and footprint outreach of WWF said, “It is a symbolic event. There is so much rhetoric out there about countries saying, ‘Why should we act on climate change if no one else is acting?’ The beauty of Earth Hour is that you see massive participation from China and India. You see iconic structures from around the world participating.”

Let us all participate in Earth Hour and turn off the lights to save the planet!
