Government of Gujarat has taken a big step in helping women by launching a helpline especially for women on the 4th of February. The helpline number on the phone is 181 and it is called as ‘Abhayam’.

Abhayam is the initiative taken by the Gujarat Government to stop violence against women. The Abhayam helpline will rescue female victims of domestic violence and give them guidance. It will also inform them about the various other women oriented schemes.

The first phase of the service will cover districts of Ahmedabad, Surat and the state capital, Gandhinagar. “1098 (Child helpline), 1091 (police assistance for women) and 108 (Emergency Ambulance Service) will also be connected to 181,” said the Deputy Secretary of Mahila Ayog, Mr. RV Bhagat.
