Pregnancy is a critical time for mothers-to-be and for the babies as well. These 9 months and the 2 years that follow after delivery, play a very crucial role in setting the child’s mind, body and emotional temperament. Often, the mothers are not aware of the baby’s developments such as the brain’s wiring, personality traits, spiritual well-being, emotional developments, rapid physical changes and developments, etc. that take place during these nine months and they do not take enough steps that can help in tapping the child’s higher intelligence and emotional well-being. So far, hospitals and doctors have focused only on the physical well-being of mother and child, ignoring the other factors that impact the child’s future. With the influx of artificial intelligence, what will set humans apart will be our emotional, soul and intelligence quotients and we must begin now, to start working towards it so that the conception of human beings innately carries the great value system.

Realizing that one is pregnant brings with it a host of emotions- joy and nervousness – all at the same time. With the amount of information listed on search engines, the mothers are often left confused and doubtful. Until now, the mothers only had their gynecologists, their mothers and mother-in-laws to go to, for information. With pregnancy comes changes with skin, body, hormones, mood swings, doubts and fears followed by post-partum depression, etc. For all this, the mother needs guidance from experts at all stages of pregnancy and for post natal care. This is the reason why we coined this need based concept of having a pregnancy studio to address all the needs of motherhood under one roof where they can be pampered, empowered with knowledge, and have a smooth and happy pre and post natal care.

Indian Mythology states Abhimanyu’s example as someone who learnt to enter the chakravyu in the womb. There are many examples in ancient texts all over the world of the great leaders who started learning in the womb itself. Modern research has begun to prove that what impacts the mothers, impacts the babies as well. Pregnant mothers have been observed to study the effects of stress on the fetuses and it has shown how fetuses react to stress in contrast to how they react when the mother is calm. Research has also proven that fetuses tend to remember the sound they have heard repeatedly during pregnancy. They tend to become calmer when they are brought closer to the mother’s chest as that is sound that was familiar to them as fetuses.

Maintaining a rich nutrient diet, taking essential vitamins, avoiding alcohol and cigarettes and too much weight gain during pregnancy, help in reducing pre-term birth complications. Certain health conditions during pregnancy such as diabetes, high blood pressure, STIs, Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy , Thrombophilias, etc. can lead to pre-term delivery and should be kept in check. Exposure to air pollution, lead, radiation and chemicals in things like paint, plastics and secondhand smoke should be completely avoided. Avoiding too much stress is advisable during pregnancy.

Yoga asanas help to keep the body supple, specifically relieving the tension around the cervix, by opening up the pelvic region, towards better preparation for labor and delivery. Yoga along with Pranayama can train the mothers to breathe deeply and relax consciously, helping them to face the demands of labor & childbirth and the sleepless nights thereafter. Yoga also helps to alleviate the effects of common symptoms such as morning sickness, painful leg cramps and constipation. It works to reduce pregnancy related backaches, bloating and swelling, while maintaining bone density, controlling weight gain etc. Yoga is also beneficial in getting back-in-shape after delivery and for postpartum depression.

When a young newly married couple, looking to have kids in the future, begins to search for pregnancy related things, what can be comforting? We realized that there is nothing in India that really works on the overall development of the baby. We began to understand how crucial these 9 months are for the baby and the mother and how neglected the pre and postnatal space has been so far. This inspired me to set up our own pre and post natal venture putting together activities that would ensure baby’s well-being.

India is a densely populated country and it is very important to raise that population in the right way. A lot of health related issues such as diabetes, heart diseases, etc. which come up much later in life can be linked to the environment received in the womb. Most brain development happens from the time of conception until the age of 5 and it’s crucial to tap into this time, to develop higher cognitive abilities. Depression too can be linked to the conditions received in the womb. All this accounts for a lot of expenditure that the nation bears towards its citizens’ health and overall being. So it is best to start right from the root and give our coming generations the right push to thrive.

For me, women empowerment means that women get an equal opportunity in every aspect of life – education, society, work and family-life. If we want to bring about women empowerment in true sense, there is a dire need for the elimination of the male superiority and patriarchal mindset. I work very closely with a team that’s largely based on the idea- ‘women that caters to women’ and nothing makes me happier than seeing one woman empowering and inspiring another.
