A new beginning for Baby Roona

After yet another surgery, which is believed to be one of the last surgeries performed on baby Roona, Doctors confirmed that the skull size of baby Roona has been reduced. Baby Roona Begum, is diagnosed by a rare disorder which caused her head to grow twice its regular size.

Baby Roona attracted a lot of sympathy, both in the country and internationally, due to her unique condition. She has already undergone a series of surgeries in May and June which has helped her skull size to reduce considerably. She was again admitted to the hospital last month near New Delhi for a surgery, which the doctors believe will be the last surgery for her skull. During the surgery, some of the bones will be removed from the skull and again rebuilt.

Roona Begum lives with her impoverished parents in a small north-eastern village and was born with a rare condition called, Hydrocephalus. The condition is considered fatal in which the cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the skull of the patient. Before the surgeries, the skull of Baby Roona measured a huge 94 centimeters which caused a lot of pressure on the brain of the baby, also making it impossible for the baby to sit up straight.

Pictures clicked of the baby fetched her lot of attention worldwide, which also prompted the hospital to treat the baby for free. The surgeries helped the brain circumference to shrink and settle down at 58 centimeters.

Baby Roona will now undergo another medical procedure in December which will help her head shrink further. However, the head size will be larger than any normal person, but these treatments will help her grow normally and live a regular life.
