Police Refuses To File FIR Against The Mysterious Case Of Reingamphi Awungshi

After the Ramchanpy Hongray (2009) and Loitam Richard (2012) dismissed cases Reingamphi Awungshi mysterious case seems to fall in the same pitch. Last week on 29 May she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her rented flat. Blood was splattered all around the girl and her face, nose and foot seemed badly hurt. Her body is sent to AIIMs for post-mortem.

Delhi Police has filed this case under IPC section 306 (which is suicide). The girl’s family refuses to sign the FIR saying that she has all the signs of being murdered and still instead of filing the FIR in IPC section 302 and 304 (for Murder) Delhi Police is dismissing the case putting it in IPC section 306.

Reingamphi was a 21 year old girl born in Ukhrul District, Manipur. This incident instigated all suppressed anger of people from northeastern India. People from different areas, of different age and sex are coming together to protest against this sad behavior of Delhi Police. The protest is conducted in front of the Malviya Nagar Police Station, Delhi. The protesters are ready to stay there till they get justice and anything else will not move them.

Binalakshmi Nepram, writer-activist and founder of Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network tweeted on this issue conveying her sorrow and questioning the decision of the Delhi police. Since they filed the FIR under IPC section 306 and didn’t wait for AIIMs post-mortem report.

The protest has been continuing since Friday. Finally Dr Kiran Walia, Minister for Women and Child Development, New Delhi, has demanded another investigation and complete post-mortem report of the victim. She also asked to submit the report directly to her and said that it is really not acceptable that police is trying to dismiss the case as suicide.

We really hope that the poor girl gets justice and the culprit be punished.
