Rape Cases and Molestation cases increase in Delhi

Delhi – No longer city for women! Until now, we believed that Delhi was not safe for women. But, according to the statistics of the recent rape and molestation cases filed, Delhi is now considered the city of reckless, inhuman men with no soul and heart.

After the Dec 16th rape case and the long processions and revolt, most of us believed that the mindset of men for women will soon change. Well, in fact it really has changed. Men, now consider women just a toy that can be enjoyed and then garbage. On Wednesday, the facts revealed by the Supreme Court shocked nearly every person. Delhi recorded a massive 1330 rape cases until October 15th against 706 cases that were recorded in 2012. Similarly, the molestation cases recorded this year are as high as 2,844 which until last year was a low 727.

Apart from these women oriented crimes, the other crime rates such as abductions, dowry, prohibition, death due to dowry, eve-teasing and cruelty by in-laws and husband have also increased in Delhi. The table mentioned below will highlight the real crime case figures recorded in the recent years.

Based on these shocking facts, a panel of 3 judges, Justice Shiva Kirti singh, G.S Singhvi and C Nagappan showed their concern against the rising Women oriented crimes. Justice Singhvi stated that women in Delhi are not at all sage and subjected more to molestation when traveling in commercial city buses. The panel was hearing a petition that was filed by Beenu Rawat and 18 other people who were seeking an investigation on the Aam Aadmi Party worker lathi charge who were simply asking the police for an FIR copy related to a rape case.

Women in the past used to suffer silently, ands still continue to do so in many places. Only a few accept to come out in the open and fight for justice. Every day, young girls traveling in Delhi suffer from molestation.

During the petition, the ASG stated that in the garb of helping the rape victim, few of the protestors pelted stones on vehicles and hence, damaged public property. As a result, the police was forced to expel the crowd by taking a minor action. The arrests made were not a violation of law but made to maintain peace during the protest.

The panel asked Mr. Bhushan (senior counsel for the petitioners) to name 2 independent people in a sealed cover for the SIT probe and the ocurt’s consideration.
