The stage is set for the biggest stars of Bollywood to sizzle at the 59th Filmfare Awards, and the stars did sizzle. The present stars made sure that the night turned out to be amazing and entertaining, although some of big names of Bollywood like Kat and SRK were missing.
The first time host, Priyanka Chopra arrived to the venue – Yashraj Studios, in her new Rolls Royce, made to custom order. Priyanka was dressed in silver dress and Ranbir wore white sherwani which had a cape attached to it keeping the futuristic theme in mind.
Here are some highlights of the event:
PC grilled RK by asking how did he managed to escape the criticism after delivering flop movie like Besharam, to which he replied that he went to a place where nobody was there. To this PC asked him how did he manage to find a place with no fans, and RK replied that he went to the theater which was showing Zanjeer (Priyanka’s film that flopped at the box office).
RK also cracked couple of jokes on Ranveer Singh like, “Ranveer went to see Lootera and by the time the film got over he grew a moustache and a beard for Ram-Leela”. That was not all Ranbir made a Ram-Leela spoof in which he played Ranveer. He dominated the stage so much that even kept Ranveer off from performing on the stage. RK also later imitated Bappi Lahiri in his spoof on Aashiqui, in which he accused Aditya Roy Kapoor of gay seduction and made fun. RK was very charismatic but was looking a bit nervous too. His nervousness was seen goofing up at times while also trying to rush dialogues a few times. He even goofed up while calling Prachi Desai as Prachai.
Farooq Shaikh and Suchitra Sen were paid tribute by Karan Johar. And later, when KJo was paying his tribute to the winner of Lifetime Achievement Award Tanuja, he was continuously distracted by Kajol. Kajol kept laughing on KJo who kept fumbling on the word “Nayaab Kalakaar”. KJo scolded Kajol by saying “I’m paying tribute to your mom. Stop pulling my leg.” A good friend Farhan Akhtar rescued Karan and finished the pending lines from his speech. AB called Tanuja a whiff of fresh breath and unconventional, while he presented the award to her.
Finally Ranveer Singh got his entrance and was a grand one. He flew to stage from sky and moved his legs on Bhai Bhai from the movie Ram-Leela, it was followed by the Tattad Tattad from the same movie. It was the best performance of the day, and Ranbir was applauding for his performance and also said he is unmatchable and unstoppable, energetic and enthusiastic.
During the Ranveer’s performance there was actual fire on the stage. A curtain had caught fire while a dance group was performing with fire sparklers towards the end of Ranveer’s dance. But thank god the security was alert and took care of it before any damage could occur. To this RK said “Waah, Ranveer ne aag hi laga diya.”
As Dhanush came on stage to collect his award for best debutante actor, he was asked to sing Kolaveri Di by RK. Dhanush said “It has taken him a long time to get that song out of his system and he didn’t want to sing it again.”
Piggy Chops also stayed behind and scolded the new girl in B-Town Vaani Kapoor, who won best debutante actress for saying SHIT on National television on winning the award.
The interesting thing was that the hosts Priyanka and Ranbir both went missing when Deepika’s award was announced, and then Karan Johar had to do the honors. Karan did pull Deepika’s leg by asking “Was Lord Ram your inspiration on the sets of Ram-Leela” pointing to Ranveer, but the audience roared when Deepika said “Karan you are my inspiration.”
