Violence Against Women

Women are known for their ability to endure more than men. This is taken a bit too literally by the men of this society. They seem to be testing the limit of this endurance. It is no news to anyone that violence against women prevails even in the most developed of the society. Some may argue in their part of the world it does not exist. These kinds of claims are based on assumption that violence is only public and physical. They tend to overlook the on-going feud between a husband and wife in a domestic setup. They also overlook the mental trauma through which a woman has to go through in an unsettled family environment. There have been several reports on types of assaults on women happening everywhere.

The most common of all is sexual harassment. In in this patriarchal world women are always looked up on as sexual objects. In some societies it is more exposed and prominent then others. UN official statistics show that rape, sexual assault cases are in rise not only in third world countries but also in so called developed societies of the west. To add to this problem inconsistency in defining rape or molestation adds more complication. This all does nothing but fuels more trouble for women around the world. Couple of latest popular examples of such cases are none other than Delhi rape case and Mexico tourist rape case. The problem most believes lies within law and order for such situations. However, basic lack of respect for women as beings seems to be the most underlining issue.

Among all this evidence there is no surprise that the well-known tolerance of women is reaching its peak and will explode if such acts keep on growing. There are several organizations that exist for over hundred years focusing on women rights and women empowerment. Similar to the rise in assaults against women there is rise against the organizations that assist women to fight back. There is no doubt that more and more women are feeling empowered thanks to such organizations. They are also helping in development of overall development of women. Even though these organizations are helping a great deal it is pivotal for every woman to take charge. This is the only way to end this see saw between man and woman to otherwise and endless silent fight where for centuries women has been on the losing end. The time to bring the change is always there but the efforts from all are equally important to make this time count. Let’s come together and fight this social paradigm that believes women are inferior to men or they are born to be controlled by men as objects.
