Kailash Kher in Interview

Without Woman We Would Not Exist – Kailash Kher

The legendary singer of the music industry, Kailash Kher gives an immense and colossal insight about the music culture from a philosophical angle and also puts forward his views on how the entertainment side can make people change their lives accordingly. He also mentions the warmness he possesses for Vadodara and its people as this was for the second time he was performing on the stage of Vadodara. Let’s have a glance of what he feels like to be in Vadodara as his Sufianaandaaz surely makes people listen his songs but his intuitive interview will make readers follow his way of thinking in life…

Vadodara is my favorite city…

Vadodara has always been my one of the most favorites and desired city to perform as Vadodarians, I found, are very much cultured, music lovers and their stance towards arts is very much laudable. This shows that Vadodara can be said a modern city only in terms of its infrastructural development. The minds and souls are still connected to each other which are attached to the cultural land and this is, in particular the very characteristic of Vadodara which always entices me to perform on the stages of Vadodara. This is also seen in many cities in India and so I call India a Junooni country as in the whole world the Junoon can be observed in India only. And the country is like this because of cities like Vadodara where people have embedded culture and music not only in lands but in their hearts. They say that VadFest (Vadodara Festival) is to promote government tourism, but I say that it is the show of many Vadodarians who came together to respect music through artists like us.

Vadodara will get whatever it wants…

There is a famous saying ‘Jaisichah, waisiraah’. And so I would say that from me Vadodarians will get according to their expectations for music. It depends on the love of people which will be bestowed upon me. “I am like a well, draw water as much as you can…and this time the well itself has come to the people”. I specially would like to tell all the people who didn’t get the opportunity to listen me live that close your eyes and listen to your antar-aatma (inner voice)and heart. It would be as good as listening to me as I am nothing else but truth.

A. R. Rehman calls you the ‘fragrance of rural soil’…

Well I think that getting a title like this is just a way of showing love to each other. Till 2002, in the whole world nobody actually knew Kailash Kher. I got fame in 2003 when for the very first time I sang for a movie and immediately from 2004 I started getting awards for the best singer. Media then started calling me a Sufi, folk, rock, pop singer. So I believe that when the world starts giving you names then it’s like this world is your lover. They love you and that’s how they personally name you. This is what I would like to tell that people have that liberty to name you out of love and affection towards you and your music. I personally never stop or correct such people as love can never be stopped or corrected. Love is a divine creation created by the almighty. It gets entrenched in us from the very beginning when we come into existence. So with such kind of a situation, not only one but thousands of A.R. Rehman will give you love and titles. I would only like to say, “Kitna badal gaya hu me duniya ke vaaste, ki awaaz de rahe hai mujhe tere naam se”.

Music never changes…

Nature would be same and will not change anytime for anyone. Only our feelings change according to time. I would say that same is the case with music. The field of art is always stationary/static and remains like that forever and it should be like that. People who think their lives are becoming lesser and lesser will definitely think that time and so things are changing and that there is nothing like earlier. But still, sun/moon or say nature is the same as it was when this earth came into presence. ‘chand, suraj na badale na hawa na paani, aur badal gaye vidhwan desh ke, yuaagayihaihaani’. Music have never lost its originality, flavor/taste but the way we are running towards success, growth and development, the quality changes. Here comes the role of media when it can revive and sustain the ingenuity of music.

Message from my heart to all the Women Planeteers…

I strongly believe that we get formed from a Janani (mother). And Janani is the foundation place of everyone and without her existence our coming into being never would have happened. We all have come into this world through a woman who is named as Janani. And the ultimate idols of Janani moving around us are the women of our country and we all need to RESPECT THEM…!
