Women Are Now a Thing for Advertising in Japan

Wit Inc. is a PR firm established in Tokyo. The company has recently chosen a wired and aggressive form of advertising. Wherein, women’s thighs and other parts of the body are public billboard space. Instead of using the actual public billboard space the company chose to use the skin and body of women, as it is cost-effective.

Al though they have set a few terms and conditions but is it the right place for posting advertisement stickers?

Considering the fact that each woman that participates in this campaign will get $121 per day, we can say that the lower class or lower division of the society may look forward to participate in this campaign. It is not the will but the force that drives this campaign. It is the economical condition of the ladies that they are forced to do so.

Although, Mr. Hidenori Atsumi, CEO of Wit Inc., told ITN that, “It’s an absolutely perfect place to put an advertisement, as this is what guys are eager to look at and girls are eager to expose.” But is it true? Are ladies in search of an option to expose their thighs? Or it is the ad agencies which are using the economic condition in their favor?

It is not for the first time that women’s skin is used for advertisement. Earlier in 2005 a woman had sold her forehead space for a month of advertisement at $37,375 on eBay. Since then it seems as if the skin-advertisement has become a category of advertisement.

As of now, all we can say is that such practices turn women as merely stocks that can be bought. We need to find answers for ourselves and help our sisters understand the real meaning of being a woman.
