Women’s Day Special: Ahmedabad girl Puja Chourasia Wins the International Triathlon

Today, on International Women’s Day, we come up with a unique effort to honor the first Indian woman to win Triathlon at International level, Puja Chourasia.

Triathlon event consists of 3 rounds – swimming, cycling and running. It starts with a swim, then a bicycle ride and lastly a run.

Puja Chourasia began to learn swimming at an age of nine in 2002. She was selected as junior squad by Indian Triathlon Federation (ITF).

Gujarat State Triathlon Association gave her an opportunity to enter 33 National games in the year 2007.

”In 2006, she won her first gold medal in swimming at National Aquathlon Championship. Eventually, ITF offered her an opportunity to participate in Triathlon”, her brother, Neil Chourasia, said. He further said, “Unlike other participants who had expensive and modern bikes, she participated with a cheaper bike and amazed everybody by winning a gold. It was the first time in the history of Triathlon that a Gujarati won the event”.

Till now, Puja has won more than 186 National and International medals. Neil wishes success and good luck to her sister on Woman’s Day.
