World Sparrow Day!

Today we hardly see the common sparrow which we use to see a lot when we were kids. The population of house sparrow and other common birds is reducing drastically. To aware people about this threat, Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) have taken an International initiative along with other numerous national and international organizations to dedicate March 20 as World Sparrow Day.

It was during a casual discussion at Nature Forever Society’s Office that they came up with the idea of World Sparrow Day. The idea was to convey a message to the society about the house sparrow and other such common birds that have been taken for granted are disappearing. It was 2010 when the first World Sparrow Day was celebrated in many parts of world. The day is celebrated by doing various kinds of activities like awareness events and campaigns, photography competitions and sparrow processions as well as interactions with media.

It is a platform that is provided to the people who work hard in conserving the house sparrows and other common birds. These people get a network to exchange their ideas for better conservation of birds.
