Over Indulgence of Diet Soda Can Cause Dental And Other Health Problems

“Too much of anything is bad.” To an extent, this saying holds good here. Though the reasons of tooth decay are not a total result of excess intake of diet soda, one cannot over rule its responsibility in causing tooth decay.

Dr. Bassiouny mentions in his study about a woman, who used to drink two litres of diet soda every day, for about half a decade, had tooth decays similar to consumption of ‘Methamphetamine and crack cocaine. The acid element in the drugs damages the oral section including the teeth to an extent that all the teeth have to be removed.

The acidic quality of soda and lack of proper dental care is reason for the decay. The excessive diet soda consumption makes the mouth feel less moist due to poor saliva secretion, causing ‘meth mouth’. This erodes the teeth enamel and cause rapid tooth decay.

Dental journals also agree that too much of diet soda can cause oral and teeth problems. Besides the pain and agony of tooth cavity, one also has to forgo the beautiful close up smiles. Yes! The teeth lose their lovely whiteness.

Over weight, diabetes and general heart conditions are the few other problems caused by diet soda over use. The “high sugar and caffeine” content in diet soda is not good for growing kids. So, children should not be encouraged to have soda or any aerated drink frequently.
