Pregnancy Workouts to Lower the Risk of Babies with High Weight

Going through a caesarean delivery is the scariest part of pregnancy for any mother. It is the obvious solution during emergencies but, not a necessity if your baby’s weight is normal. According to a recent study, moderate exercises performed during the second and third trimesters help you reduce the risk of having hugh birth weight babies, also called macrosomia wherein the weight of the babies is more than 4 kgs. The research, performed by Ruben Barakat (Polytechnic university of Madrid), Jonathan Ruiz (university of Granada) and Alejandro Lucia (European University of Madrid), shows you report samples of more than 510 pregnant women.

During the study, they contacted 780 Spanish pregnant women, but only 510 agreed to become a part of the research. They were made to follow a simple training program 3 days a week that consisted of 55 minute aerobic sessions, flexibility and muscle strengthening exercises. Their health was regularly monitored by doctors to avoid complications. As a result, the training sessions helped reduce two major health concerns, macrosomia by 58 percent and the risk of undergoing a caesarean delivery by 34 percent.

This research will help encourage most women to perform certain basic exercises. Moreover, it is also seen to help fight the negative health effects of gestational diabetes mellitus on the growing fetus.
