Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – By Anupamaa Singh

“EFT is destined to be a top healing tool of the 21st century”- Cheryl Richardson, Author
“EFT offers great healing benefits”- Deepak Chopra, MD

Thousands of years ago, Chinese discovered the meridian system in the human body, the energy circuits which run through the body. These circuits were considered the basis of acupuncture, acupressure etc.

EFT draws upon these traditional Chinese methods for healing. In EFT, we simply tune into specific issues and then tap with our finger tips on certain meridian points. It is, in essence, the emotional version of acupuncture without using needles.

Due to the energy flow within human body, signals are transmitted to the brain through the nervous system. We have commonly noticed during the winter season that people often experience static electricity being discharged from our body, especially when we rub against any warm clothing. For example, when we hold an ice cube, instantly signal gets transmitted to the brain and we sense the numbness in our hands. All our five senses thrive on this energy flow within the body.

There is music flowing through the environment all the time, but can we hear the music without tuning in, using our radio? No, we cannot. We cannot see these signals. Similarly, the energy flow in our body is also invisible, but it does exist. Whenever there is a disruption in this energy flow, the discomfort is sensed in the body and many a times, this discomfort gets manifested as disease in the body.

Similarly, when there are feelings attached with memories and if these memories create discomfort, there is a disruption in the energy flow which gets manifested as negative thoughts. Also, our thoughts become beliefs when feelings are attached with the thoughts. Depending on negative and positive feelings, the beliefs are positive or negative.

Our minds are programmed since birth and beliefs are stored in the sub-conscious mind. 90% of our responses are based on the beliefs stored in the sub-conscious mind whereas the conscious mind has only 10% role to play in our responses to circumstances and situations. The sub-conscious mind cannot differentiate between positive or negative, it just reacts.

EFT helps to balance the disturbances in the energy system. Since the energy flow is restored in the body and with use of affirmations repeatedly, lengthy therapy procedures are often reduced to hours and minutes.

The founder of EFT, Gary Craig, created simple techniques for EFT. The basic technique is very simple and can be learnt by anyone, even children. No special education is required to learn EFT. By simply tapping at the end points of the energy meridians, the disturbances in the energy flow is restored which in turn, brings relief at all levels.

EFT has proven to be a powerful technique that can reduce stress or painful emotions associated with thoughts, past experiences, etc. EFT is the key to Holistic Healing. Holistic because, it addresses issues at all four planes, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, leading one towards wholeness and a healthy consciousness. As Carol Tuttle, the famous Energy Psychologist says “A healthy consciousness leads to a healthy body”.
