Women love shopping. But now, there is one more reason for you ladies to pick your purses and go to your favorite stores and buy your favorite handbags and shoes.

According to a recent research performed, scientists have confirmed that buying designer luxury handbags and shoes is one of the most expressive ways for women to highlight their style or signal their status. Based on this study performed by the researchers at the University of Minnesota, women mostly love purchasing luxury items to woo their partners and preventing other women from getting close to them.

The research that included some 649 women of different ages, status and relationships was performed mainly to know how luxury items helped women to send signals to other women who posed a threat on their partners or relationships.

Vladas Griskevicius, an associate professor in the research stated that according to the study nearly $250 billion is usually spent every year on women’s luxury items. Women buy 3 handbags in an year simply to make it evident that they are highly interested in keeping their relation safe and protected from other women.

He further adds, that when women show-off their designer products, it usually tells other women to back-off from their men.

During the research, Griskevicius and his PhD student, Yajin Wang, investigated what most other women conclude about a woman and her partner from her luxury possessions. They found out that a woman wearing designer and branded products has a more devoted and loving partner. As a result, other women were seen to flirt less with the partner.

In another research, Griskevicius and Wang studied how women react when they feel jealous. In this study, they made the women jealous by making them imagine other women flirting with their partners. Soon after that, they were given the task of drawing any brand logo on a handbag. As a result of jealousy, women drew logos which were twice the size of the original logo which they drew in other conditions.

Seeing the threat on their relationship, most women thought of flashing expensive brands like Fendi, Gucci, Chanel, etc. to other women. According to Wang, owning a pair of expensive shoes or a handbag seems to help women shield their romantic relations.

In a similar study performed by them, it was known that women desired more luxurious items like cars, cell phones, handbags, shoes and clothes simply to lure their partners. They nearly spent 32% more money from their own pockets to simply enjoy a shopping spree.

Similarly, men also seek expensive items simply to show off their style and status to lure women. But, the fact always remains that women buy best products simply to make themselves feel superior to other women and this is one reason why a woman’s handbag costs anywhere between $50 to $5,000. And, it is obvious, any woman who dresses best and looks great in designer clothes successfully catches the eye of all men or successfully keeps her partner interested in her.
