Mood Swings Can Affect Your Skin

Stress, depression, fear, happiness and anger are just a few of the emotions that we feel in our everyday life. But, did you know that such an emotional turmoil can also affect your skin, apart from affecting your mental peace?

Mood swings, small or long lasting have an irreversible effect on our skin. If you are happy, your skin glows with health. And if you are stressed out, your skin will instantly show the inner emotional turmoil on your face. This is why people believe, ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’.

Stress

The biggest enemy of your skin is stress. It produces high levels of Cortisol which harms the facial skin cells by disrupting the blood flow pattern. This leads to fast aging and wrinkles on the skin. Your skin loses its glow and can also lead to other skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne or eczema.

Anger

After stress comes Anger. This emotion affects our facial muscles and decelerates the skin’s healing process while enhancing aging. Prolonged anger can cause chest pain, high blood pressure and also excessive sweating which may trigger other severe health conditions such as cardiac arrest. People who are short tempered should learn to control their anger and do exercises such as yoga to keep their mind at peace.

Depression

One of the main reasons for bad mood is depression. A lot of people nowadays, suffer from anxiety and depression due to innumerable reasons. This leads to high cortisol levels in the blood which leads to fast aging, hair loss, increased body fat and skin pigmentation. The sadness caused due to depression can lead to wrinkles on your face and also make your skin dull.

Embarrassment

Every task we do leads to a specific reaction. Embarrassment is one such reaction that each one of us must have faced at one point or the other in our lives. This emotion makes our brain release a signal that causes chronic swollen blood vessels, leading to sleep deprivation. It also increases conditions such as acne and a weakened enzyme production in the body leading to stomach conditions and more.

Fear

Adrenaline, also known as the fear hormone leads to frowning and high blood flow in the body. This leads to the rupture of the sweat glands and also wrinkles on the face. The skin may loose the glow and firmness making us look older by a few years.
