FSAD

Female Sexual Arousal Disorder

For both men and women, sex plays a very important role in their lives. But, talking about sex, women also face a series of problems, including sexual arousal. Despite the feeling of enjoying sex, not many women get aroused with their partners. According to Dr. Bhonsle, HOD of Sexual Medicines at the KEM Hospital, the reason can be related to any of the four sexual stages, which are:

  • Sexual desire in the mind (brain)
  • Arousal in the body
  • Penetration
  • Orgasm

Arousal disorder can be caused due to problems in any of these 4 sexual stages. This is called FSAD.

In the first sexual stage, the woman could have a low desire for sex as compared to the man which leads to problems with arousal. In the second stage of sex, despite of the brain signaling the desire for sex, the body might not respond to the sexual desire leading to no lubrication. Also, there can be a possibility that the partner is not giving the woman proper foreplay. Direct penetration doesn’t allow lubrication which makes sex extremely painful. In the penetration stage of sex, problems can be caused due to an intact hymen, inborn penetration phobia, vaginal spasms and narrow vaginal canal.

How to avoid: Consult sexologist and take their guidance to treat your condition.
