Home Remedies For Toothaches

An individual who has experienced toothache alone can understand what an unbearable agony it is! The person cannot speak, eat or drink anything. All that he would want is that the pain should stop. The added irritation is the timing.

Toothaches occur at times when getting medical help is difficult. The aching begins late in the evening, weekends or holidays when getting medical help is difficult. One has to resign to bearing the pain or seeking help from grandma’s home-remedy ideas.

There are ways to keep the pain under control or to remove it completely till your next visit to a dental clinic.

Cloves

If the pain is due to tooth decay, clean the painful tooth in a gentle manner and place a cotton piece, dipped in clove essence over the aching tooth. Powdered clove is a better option. Keep a pinch of the powder near the hurting tooth. In a few seconds the pain will be gone.

Mild aspirins

Placing the sugar coated tablet over the affected tooth helps. Pain stops once the pill mixes with the saliva.

Cold compress

Some people feel relieved if a cold pack is placed on the sides of the cheek which is swollen. Besides reducing the inflammation, the pain also subsides. As against this, there are many who prefer to use a warm pack. Dip a napkin or hand towel in hot water. Squeeze the excess water and place the bearably hot napkin on the hurting part of the jaw. The pain reduces considerably.

Tea Bags

Next in the line of remedies would be to use tea bags, preferably cold ones. Place the sachet near the painful tooth. The tea extract relieves the ache and decreases the inflammation as well.

Warm salt water

Yet another tooth ache relief is a warm salt water mouth wash. Sip a mouthful of warm salty fluid and allow it to stay in the mouth before spitting out. Besides healing the swollen area, it also kills the germs in the mouth while relieving the pain.

Brandy or Whiskey

Though using intoxicants is addictive, using the same as medication is allowed. Place a small cotton piece soaked in ‘brandy or whiskey’ near the affected tooth. The portion becomes numb. Keep replacing the cotton till you meet the dental expert.

If food particles between teeth cause the pain, using dental floss to remove them would give instant relief. The other two important pain relievers are alternate healing methods like ‘Acupressure’ and swallowing tablets bought from medical shops.
